A Call to Accountability: An Open Letter to NAOSS National Leadership - EMO writes
As a concerned student leader, it is with utmost disappointment that I address the current leadership of the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) National, under the stewardship of Akinnibi Miftau Oyenpemi. It is imperative to articulate our collective dissatisfaction and demand immediate transparency and action.
Approximately three months ago, NAOSS National announced that the Osun State Government was set to disburse bursaries to 100 indigent students per local government. Given that there are 30 local governments in Osun State, plus the Ife East Area Office, a total of 3,100 students were slated to benefit from this initiative. To facilitate this, a sum of ₦2,000 was collected per student as NAOSS dues, supposedly to ensure the beneficiaries' eligibility for the bursary.
However, since this announcement and subsequent collection of dues, there has been a deafening silence from the union's leadership. The promised bursary remains in limbo, with no positive update or communication from NAOSS National. This lack of follow-through is not only disappointing but also deeply concerning.
The essence of leadership lies in trust and accountability. Regrettably, both appear to be in short supply under the current administration. We, the members of NAOSS, are left questioning the integrity of the leadership and the sincerity of their intentions.
To set the record straight and uphold the trust reposed in them, we demand the following:
Immediate Update: NAOSS National must provide a comprehensive update on the status of the bursary within the next 48 hours. This update should include clear reasons for the delay, steps being taken to address it, and a realistic timeline for when students can expect to receive their bursary.
Financial Transparency: An audited financial statement detailing the collection and allocation of the ₦2,000 dues from each student must be made public. This is essential to ensure that funds have been appropriately managed and utilized.
We await a prompt and transparent response from the NAOSS National leadership within the stipulated timeframe. The future of our association depends on the actions we take today.
In solidarity,
Ejidokun Moses Oluwaseun, OCS
